Central Basin
The Central Basin takes up most of the continent west of the rift. It is mostly grassland and forest, though the Dotachokajon desert is also considered to be part of the Basin. It was historically populated by satyrs, ipotanes, and fauns, but post-cataclysm, satyrs have mostly moved away, either farther south or across the rift to the east, to live in human cities.
Syuritou Peneplains
The Syuritou Peneplains lie between the Montaran foothills and the forests south of the Spectators. This is where ipotanes originated. The prairies that make up these plains once expanded further east and north, but the ashfall from the cataclysm enriched the soil such that the forests that could not previously survive further southwest could, and thus expanded. Further fueling this treeward expansion was the death of the satyr cities: their pines that they bred selectively for centuries to grow fast and strong- for use in architecture- grew unchecked after their cities fell, and thus took over the forests and northern grasslands after the cataclysm.
The plains that remain are cultivated and cared for as they always have been by ipotane herds that live there. Due to post-cataclysm dwindled populations, there is a degree of wildness that was not true of the grasslands previously, as it is more difficult for the fewer number of herds to care for the large swath of land. However, they are still very much a nurtured land as ipotanes continue to follow their practices of agriculture, burning, and wildlife culling and care.
The plains are home to the largest dragons and griffons anywhere on Synsolic, as the abundant prey and physical space allowed their previously smaller ancestors to grow drastically in size. Ipotane herds have long histories of select individuals given the title of Dragonslayer and trained specifically to defend their herd against a dragon or griffon, usually in groups of up to 10, depending on the size of the herd. This practice eventually leaked out of ipotane herds and was adopted in many other telluran cities to defend themselves against the rare, but not unheard of, [diredrake] attack. This practice also spawned the first mercenary groups.
Land of Living Cities
The Land of Living Cities occupied the pine forests south of the Spectators, but has since wasted away and been forgotten, as the cataclysm destroyed much of what gave it its name. This was satyr's origins, and is named for their method of architecture. It's name in Arbor is Yañaiveut, and this is the name that is mostly used in extant times. These forests are now largely uninhabited, as satyrs have long since fled or died, and the fear of another eruption keeps humanoids away. The remains of their cities, though, still occupy the heart of the forests. Pines grow unnaturally tall in absence of a cultivator, and some remain with their trunks and branches twisted as they had been directed by satyrs, into paths and rooms and decoration. Overgrown as they are, the trees that lived are shaped still by an era long gone.
Suns' Reach Basin
The Suns' Reach Basin is an area of low elevation between the Barrier mountains and the rift. It is a mix of grassland and savannah, occupied by mostly fauns and ipotanes, though there are many human and satyr inhabitants as well. It is one of the most equally mixed locations in Synsolic, and is therefore an area of vibrant communities and cultural exchange. It is perhaps the only area to undergo a growth in population since the cataclysm, as nowhere else has yet even recovered to a fraction of its previous numbers. The more southerly Arbiter's Moorlands have greater populations of humans, as they are well-suited to their methods of agriculture and livestock cultivation, but still see plenty of the other telluran species, as well.
